“In 2015, it was my first senior season, and I had just moved from juniors. In Sochi, at the ‘Iceberg Arena,’ there was the premiere of the ‘Carmen’ performance. I really wanted to see this particular show. Ilia (Averbukh) and I had just started working together back then. He made a huge contribution to my sports career, and we created many cool programs together that shone on the international stage.
After the test skates, we got in the car and headed to the ‘Iceberg.’ I managed to watch the first act from the control booth.
‘Carmen’ is a special character and a special music for me. I really wanted to portray this character at the Olympics; it was a small dream of mine. But in the end, it turned out to be Anna Karenina.
Now, ‘Carmen’ is something new and long-awaited for me. At the same time, I understand that if we had taken on this role when I was younger, it would have looked funny because I was just a little girl. Now, I’m almost 24, and I understand what it means to be a woman, to create intrigue, and to keep people on their toes. I believe I can do it.
I want to express my immense gratitude to Ilia Averbukh for making my dream of this character, this heroine, and this incredible classical music a reality over the years,” said Medvedeva.
