Even without mentioning names, what do you think – why do top athletes switch coaches at all? What are they looking for? You yourself, by the way, also changed coaches when you were a top athlete.
Evgenia Medvedeva: Well, actually, everyone has different reasons. But mainly, it’s some kind of discord, of course. Let’s be honest: an athlete doesn’t leave when everything is going great for them. If an athlete leaves, it means that not everything is going smoothly for them.
But behind this, there is also a desire to try something new in one’s life, apart from problems. To see what’s what, to “climb over the fence”. Sometimes curiosity plays a role.
People, especially top athletes, switch for the atmosphere. They want to change the atmosphere: either from a tense one to a lighter one, or from a lighter one to a more tense one, in order to win. That’s it. It’s all about the atmosphere.
