The Spanish Figure Skating Federation reached out to Germany Figure Skating Federation regarding Dieck’s transfer.
“Last week, the German Figure Skating Association (DEU) received a request from the Spanish Federation for release to allow Dortmund ice dancer Tim Dieck to compete under the Spanish flag with his new partner, British-Spanish ice dancer Olivia Smart. After several negotiation talks, the Spanish Federation was able to make a better financial offer. The new ice dance dup has recently started training in Canada. The request for release is currently being reviewed by the DEU.”
It was announced in December that Smart and Dieck had teamed up.
Previously, Smart represented Spain with Adrian Diaz, who retired after the 2021/22 season. Together they took 8th place at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing and 7th place at the 2022 World Championships. Prior to 2016, Olivia represented Great Britain in competitions.
Dieck skated in a duo with Katarina Muller and represented Germany. The pair took 21st place in Beijing 2022 and 12th place at the 2022 European Championships.
