Kaori Sakamoto shared her emotions about winning gold medal at 2023 World Championships in Saitama.
Kaori Sakamoto: Last year I won gold at the World Championships and the Olympic bronze. And I felt a lot of pressure after that. That’s probably why I didn’t have a good start of the season.
I was pretty nervous, I just didn’t recognize myself and I can’t say that there were pleasant emotions. I was very disappointed, first of all, with myself.
But it seems to me that it was not in vain – I was able to pull myself together and perform well at the Japanese Nationals.
My main advantage is my experience. And what happened today in the free program, at first it was like a nightmare. The same mistake I made right here in Saitama 4 years ago. If you knew how nervous I was.
But that means now my main task is to skate both programs clean next season.
