Ilia Malinin: I think today was just the best skating in my career. I’ve been working like crazy for the last two weeks; we worked on every little detail of the programs, and I’m just happy that I managed to show it all today. I was even surprised that everything worked out so well. I’m still in shock, to be honest.
But the audience also seemed to like it. This gives me confidence before the free program, especially since I had no problems with the quad axel in training for the last couple of weeks. So I’m looking forward to Saturday. I’m definitely ready.
Last year at the World Championships, I didn’t know what to expect; there was no experience at all. So I was completely focused on jumps. But since then, we’ve been working on the artistic side a lot, working with Shae-Lynn Bourne, and that’s all, I hope, helped me. And today on the ice, I am different from Ilia Malinin of that year.
But I want to continue to work a lot on artistry. It would be great to try some new style, something unusual for the short program next year. Did I come to Rafael Arutyunyan before the World Championships to prepare? No, we decided to stay at our rink; we have no problems with ice there, and we can train as much as we want.
