Jason Brown: I really enjoyed performing! I’ve done so many shows in Japan this season that today I just said to myself, “Okay, let this be another show for the audience.” I am happy to be on the competitive ice again.

I understand that I can no longer train as before, and I can no longer jump through my programs endlessly. But the older I get, the more interesting training becomes for me. I have to come up with new approaches to stay in shape.

By the way, the show helped a lot with this. You have to perform there, no matter how you feel. You have to go on the ice, and that’s it. And it helps a lot in competitions. Sometimes I had to perform in six shows in two days, with five performances per show. It made me stronger.

How did I decide to stay in sports? You know, after the Olympics, I was sure that it was it; I finished. But I was not ready to announce it right away; I needed time.

After Beijing, I spent a lot of time in different shows and was shocked that at the end of the tour, I had more energy than at the beginning. Skating with spectators after the pandemic is very cool; I get energy from the public.

Then I was invited to the Japan Open. And at first I was supposed to be announced as a skater who had ended his career. But there I had to skate a free program, and I didn’t want to keep my Olympic program, I wanted to turn that page already.

So we choreographed a new program, and when I skated it, I told the coaches that I did not want to leave the sport. Yes, I will combine with the show, but I’m ready to compete.
