Evgenia Medvedeva recalled how in Canada she accidentally called a coach “faggot”.

Evgenia Medvedeva: A few years ago, I was training in Canada, and when I first got there, my English was not fluent. I had to think very hard before I said something. There was no practice. It was the second week of my stay in Canada; I was learning to communicate with people, and I went to additional training in the gym.

Our group had a very cool physical training coach, but then he forgot about me at some point. He forgot to put me on the schedule. He looks at me and asks, “Are you training today?” I say, “Yes, today.” He stands and looks at me, and I understand that he just forgot about me. And there are two very similar words: “forgot” and “faggot.” And I say to him with such a playful look, “Ooo, you faggot!”

So, we parted on the note that he forgot, I don’t know English, and I said that he was a faggot. Then it turned out that he had a very vulnerable soul; he did not talk to me for a week and looked at me askance.

Until I asked another coach what was the matter. And then they explained to me that “forgot” and “faggot” are two completely different words. Then I turned red when I went to his training. But what you won’t do for the sake of the result, so I had to endure a little cringe.
