“Trusova returned to Khrustalny on her own terms. They tolerated her, difficult character is difficult character, but five quads are five quads. But will they tolerate now?” Vaitsekhovaskaya about prospects of Alexandra Trusova to continue her sports career
Russian journalist Elena Vaitsekhovaskaya about prospects of Anna Shcherbakova, Alena Kostornaia, Alexandra Trusova and Kamila Valieva. This is part 3, about Alexandra Trusova.
In her group on Telegram Vaitsekhovskaya explained why she thinks that the “Olympic” generation of Russian female single skaters can gradually move into the category of the second echelon.
Translation of the part about Anna Shcherbakova is here: “It’s possible that Sherbakova’s injury is a consequence of prerotations and underrotations.”
Translation of the part about Alena Kostornaia is here: “Alena already had experience of not getting to the Olympics and managed to understand that people don’t die because of this.”
Elena Vaitsekhovskaya: After the Olympics in Beijing, I wrote that Sasha Trusova, with her physique and five quads, has the most realistic chances to stay in the sport for another four years and finally win that damned gold medal. The medal, of course, is a powerful motivation, but the paradox is that it can be more difficult for Trusova to integrate into the post-Olympic reality than for all the other athletes taken together.
When Alena Kostornaia parted with the former coaching staff, according to people closely familiar with the situation, the girl was told: “Alena, you have your own opinion on everything, as well as a certain experience, it is clear that you will no longer blindly obey coaching instructions, this may be good, but with the approach accepted in the group, it simply does not make sense to remain here.”
When Trusova returned to Khrustalny from Plushenko, she returned on her own terms. In other words, it is logical to assume that they simply tolerated her, made concessions, understanding that difficult character is difficult character, but five quadruples are five quadruples. But will they tolerate now?
The question immediately arises: “Why?” After five quads landed at the Olympics, any decrease in the number will be perceived as a step back – this is how human psychology works. Some kind of quality improvement is capable of saving the situation: in programs, interpretation, complexity of composition. This is a grandiose work that Sasha did not do after the Olympics – this is quite obvious. That is, returning to her usual training, by definition, she will look weaker than she was. And perhaps weaker than someone else.
So what is the point then of focusing on an athlete with so many personal features when crowds of young, obedient, hard-working and much more motivated are skating around? And when there are no serious competitions in the foreseeable future? Not to mention that in order to change the style, image and impression of Trusova, perhaps, other coach, a different approach and a different attitude to her own career are generally needed.
Again, the question remains: does Sasha herself want to continue? At the moment, she is the highest paid ice show star in the country (I got a confirmation of this from several sources at once), the unique jumping content will be enough for several more years of shows, and then, maybe, her own business will start working. At one time, my friend and colleague, football journalist Sergei Mikulik, absolutely brilliantly remarked in one of his materials: “There is no time for football anymore. Big money – they require a serious attitude … “
Personally, I dream that Sasha started braiding her hair again. First, it’s much more stylish. Well, by metropolitan standards. And, secondly, I desperately miss that Sasha, who had no equal in striving for the impossible.
Continuation about Valieva, although in fact about Tutberidze, follows…
