European figure skating champion Alena Kostornaia supported the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to gradually raise the age minimum to 17 years.

Alena Kostornaia: In general, I think that the decision to raise the minimum age is right. Still, kids should compete with kids, adults with adults.

But in our sport, children work on an equal footing with adults, although in general they are not adults, and as a result, health suffers, many leave the sport early, the figure skater’s career ends much earlier than it could.

Children should remain children, because they cannot even be responsible for their decisions.
