Evgeni Plushenko: Alena was sick with coronavirus, after an illness she went back to training a week before the Russian Nationals. Unfortunately, she could not prepare after the coronavirus, it is very difficult for her to skate programs in terms of breathing. Such a difficult time now.
Although Alena jumped and was eager for battle. But with training loads you can get complications, so we decided to withdraw the athlete from the competitions despite all her desire to compete.
She’s a young girl, all her life is ahead, so I took responsibility and withdrew her from competitions due to medical recommendations so that there would be no complications.

I agree completely. They should have done in this way for Sherbakowa. I cannot understand the coaches. If she is still ill- and so seems it- then she should better stay at home.
This was the best decision under the circumstances. The health of the athlete should come first. It doesn’t matter if they miss competitions, no matter what they are.
I wish Alena, and the other athletes who have either got COVID-19 or who did have it, a full recovery.
