Adeliia Petrosian revealed that in the summer of 2025, due to injury, she considered not attending the Olympic qualifier. In that case, Alina Gorbacheva would have competed at the qualifying tournament in Beijing. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Q: In the summer, you thought about giving your spot to a substitute athlete. What was that like? Was it something you really considered, or just a passing thought?

Adeliia Petrosian: At the time of the injury, I was in such poor shape that it seemed there was no point in going. Going without triple jumps would have been really strange. But once I managed to put together the minimum content, I didn’t refuse. After the qualifier, I didn’t have those thoughts anymore.”

Adeliia Petrosian described the emotions she experienced after the Olympics. The Russian figure skater finished sixth at the 2026 Milan Olympics.

Adeliia Petrosian: Basically, I showed what I was able to prepare. I performed at the level I was in at the time, since I didn’t have time to recover everything. So that’s the kind of skate I showed. There’s nothing to complain about – what I worked for, that’s what I achieved.

Q: So you’re calm now?

Adeliia Petrosian: Yes, I’m calm now, I’ve accepted it.

Q: What emotions did you feel right after?

Adeliia Petrosian: The first week in Moscow was still tough, I was recovering. I think I went through all the stages: denial, acceptance, disappointment – it was all there. After the skate, I felt empty, then anger, hurt, tears. Then I calmed down, and then, on the contrary, I felt a strong sense of excitement during the exhibition performances. After that, I withdrew into myself. In these waves, I eventually reached acceptance and calm.

Q: Are you now training as if nothing happened? Has it all passed for you?

Adeliia Petrosian: Probably, yes.”
