Czech ice dancers Natalie Taschlerova and Filip Taschler have captivated audiences with their ree dance program, inspired by the iconic film The Matrix. Through their performance, the sibling duo brings to life not only their interpretation of the cult classic but also a powerful message about freedom, self-discovery, and breaking free from societal constraints.
In an Instagram post, Natalie and Filip shared the deeper meaning behind their ambitious program:
“Our Olympic program is inspired by The Matrix – but not just as a film. For us, Matrix is a metaphor for the world we live in: a system of expectations, limits, labels, and invisible rules that shape how we are supposed to move, think, and be.
In the movie, the Matrix represents illusion – a controlled reality that feels real until you choose to see beyond it. Neo’s journey is about awakening, courage, and the decision to step outside of fear. That message deeply resonates with us as athletes and as people.
Through our skating, we express the tension between control and freedom. At the beginning of the program, the movement is sharp, mechanical, almost restricted – symbolizing a world that dictates structure and conformity. The lines are precise, the energy contained.
As the program evolves, the choreography transforms. The connection becomes stronger, the movements expand, and the dynamic shifts from resistance to power. It’s the moment of choice – to break patterns, to trust instinct, to create your own reality and be who u truly are!
Matrix, to us, is about duality:
light and dark, control and chaos, fear and belief.
It is about discovering strength within vulnerability.
It is about stepping beyond what is expected.
The iconic green code from The Matrix symbolizes information, structure, and destiny. But we choose to skate not as part of the code – we skate as the glitch. The disruption. The awakening.
Let’s bend the rules.”
