“I was most impressed by Malinin’s skate, because we were all waiting to see how he would take the ice. He proved himself a true athlete, a hero of his time. Malinin has been ahead of everyone for the past two or three years. I love talented people and his program – I think it’s wonderful. Every time I watch it, it’s a pleasure.
I just watched Kagiyama’s performance for the second time. He fell, but it wasn’t just a fall – he caught an edge. Kagiyama was in great shape, but when Malinin skates, everyone else, even the very good ones, seem different: Malinin is unique. Everyone will skate, but I think no one but Malinin will contend for gold,” Tarasova said.
