Boikova, Kozlovskii, and their coach Stanislav Morozov were featured in a new episode of “Tutberidze Method” on Okko. Here’s a translation of their comments.
“Aleksandra Boikova: The thing is, I was deprived of the chance to go to the Olympics. I worked for four years – let’s not pretend otherwise – for that competition. Then, suddenly in May, the news came that we weren’t going anywhere. I felt a lot of apathy. But I realized I needed some motivation to keep skating. That motivation became the quadruple throw.
Dmitri Kozlovskii: Mainly, it’s Sasha’s idea. You can only be happy for her and support her, because it really takes a strong character and true courage to attempt this element.
Aleksandra Boikova: Often in training, when the throw didn’t work, Stanislav [Morozov] and Dima would say, “Come on, let’s do a loop and calm down.” But I knew for myself that I didn’t want to skate unless I was doing this element.
Because for me, this was the first and most important goal this season – to perform this element in competition. That dream was taken from me, so to speak, but this dream can’t be taken away, because I’m the one doing it.
Stanislav Morozov: She started saying, “We don’t have any titles, I’m nobody, I want to stand out somehow.” I said, “Sasha, why are you saying such nonsense? You’re European champions, World medalists, you’ve been to the Olympics – yes, fourth place. If you want to do these quad, let’s do it. But it’s a very dangerous element. If you want to, go ahead, but don’t get nervous, just skate calmly.”
Aleksanda Boikova: I really, really want to win the Olympics with Dima. Of course, I want to win the World Championships. Speaking about sport – for me, it’s a bit about satisfying my vanity, understanding that I’m worth something, that I’ve achieved something in this world – that I’m cool, I’m awesome.
For me, confirmation of this theory will be a gold medal. Not just one, but several – different ones would be great. But for me, it’s important.”
