Nina Pinzarrone reflects on her successful debut at the Winter Olympics as the top Belgian in figure skating. Despite overcoming injuries earlier in the season, she achieved one of her best scores and is already looking forward to the 2030 Games. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.
The 19-year-old athlete, after a challenging season marked by injuries, expressed delight over her performance and spoke of her dream to compete at the 2030 Winter Olympics. “I want to experience this all over again.”
Pinzarrone concluded her Olympic experience with her fourth-best free skate score ever and a total score that she had only surpassed at the 2024 European Championships.
“I feel relieved and pretty happy with my performance,” the skater shared. “I fought for every jump. Even when things didn’t go as well, I pushed forward and stayed resilient.”
She continued, “In the end, I scored 15 points more than at the European Championships. That’s a big improvement. I’m glad to deliver a performance like this at the Olympics, with all the pressure it entails – and I was able to enjoy it as well.”
Pinnedarrone admitted that she faced mental challenges during the European Championships. “It was my first major competition since March, and I felt a lot of pressure, which made it hard to enjoy myself. Here at the Olympics, I really could enjoy the experience.”
Pinzarrone shared that she always aims to connect with the audience through her performance. “I always try to tell a story. I hope that people watching can feel it through the screen. If you’re enjoying yourself, others will enjoy it too.”
While the audience certainly appreciated her free skate, Pinzarrone herself relished the experience. “This tastes like more – I want to do it again. It’s four years away, but I hope to be there again. Hopefully, I can begin the next Olympics with a stronger mental frame of mind.”
Asked about her favorite moments at the Games, Pinzarrone singled out her performance and the Olympic opening ceremony. “My free skate and the opening ceremony – those were moments of unparalleled feelings. Walking into the stadium and representing our small country was incredibly special.”
Reflecting on her Olympic experience, she said, “The whole week has been so impressive, and I want to relive it all. I’m glad I still have three more days here to soak it all in.”
