Participating in official practice at the competition venue, the two smoothly executed elements such as the triple twist lift, side-by-side triple loops, and throw jumps to music, demonstrating their solid form. After recharging their energy following the Japanese Nationals at the end of last year, they said in unison, “Our condition has really improved this week.”
This competition is being held at the same venue as last September’s Olympic final qualifier. For Nagaoka, it’s a place filled with memories, as it’s where they secured Japan’s second Olympic pairs spot. “It feels like we’ve come back – it’s really moving,” she reflected.
With less than two weeks until their dream stage at the Olympics, they have set high goals for this event. Moriguchi stated, “Of course, we’re aiming for the gold medal, but first and foremost, we want a clean performance. If we can officially achieve the kind of score we got at Nationals, that would be great.” Nagaoka added, “I want to give a performance that builds my confidence, win a medal, earn points… there are so many things I want to achieve,” expressing her high ambitions.
