Alysa Liu reflected on her performance at the 2025 U.S. Nationals where she won the silver medal. Here’s a translation of her comments reported by Sports journalist Maya Bagriantseva.

“It feels surreal, as if all this isn’t happening to me. I came here without any particular goals or expectations. I just wanted to perform well – to be honest, it was only a week before the Nationals started that I skated a decent free program for the first time.

I was a bit surprised to have won the silver medal. I had quite a long break in my career – I hadn’t competed for two years.

Honestly, I had forgotten what scores are considered good and which aren’t – really, how the whole scoring system works. So I sat in the Kiss and Cry absolutely not understanding what I had scored – and whether it was enough for a podium finish.

Moreover, I messed up a spin, so it was an absolute surprise for me that I delivered my best result of the season,” reported Sports correspondent Maya Bagriantseva, quoting Liu.
