Professional skater Yuzuru Hanyu (29) poured his heart into a performance aimed at supporting reconstruction. The “Noto Peninsula Reconstruction Support Charity Performance” was held on the September 15th in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. It was a show titled “Challenge, Challenge” for the victims who suffered significant damage during the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January. Due to venue arrangements, the show was livestreamed, and the proceeds, including those from the delayed stream, were donated to Ishikawa Prefecture.
Rehearsals took place at the venue on the September 14th, where Takahito Mura (33), Akiko Suzuki (39), and Satoko Miyahara (26) meticulously checked the choreography for the opening and finale. Hanyu expressed his dedication, saying, “I will skate with all my heart and soul, keeping the disaster-affected areas in mind.” “We’re still adjusting until the actual performance day, and we really want to deliver something good,” he added.
It was March when TV Kanazawa, the organizer of the performance, received a message from Hanyu, “Is there anything I can do for Noto?” This was right after he finished his local Miyagi ice show “Yuzuru Hanyu Notte Stellata 2024,” 13 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
“There’s meaning in skating in Ishikawa,” said Hanyu.
After the finale, he spoke, “There are many people currently enduring hardships. While saying ‘it’s not tough,’ some may still experience inconveniences or feel a sort of loneliness. I hope, I truly hope, that this event makes you all feel a little bit warmer.”
