Earlier, TASS reported that the Technical Committee of the International Skating Union (ISU) is discussing proposals to simplify rules in singles and pairs figure skating. This includes reducing the required number of jumps and other elements.
Tatiana Tarasova dismissed the idea of the ISU Technical Committee to simplify programs as nonsense. Here’s a translation of her comment.
“I am surprised, of course, because in any kind of activity, the bar is only being raised now, and suddenly in a sport like figure skating, it is lowered – such a huge nonsense.
With these proposals, the ISU is trying to preserve the sport, give weak athletes the opportunity to participate and win. They don’t care what it turns into, and what to do next, they will think about it later. Even somewhat capable figure skaters will compete with those who can do everything.
But perfection cannot be canceled, no matter how much they may dislike us. I think this is a temporary measure of foolishness that they are taking. Foolishness and unprofessionalism.
We will still learn something new, we will not stop. But within these rules. But we can hold competitions according to our rules – that’s our business, our question,” said Tatiana Tarasova.

All I watch is ice dance. Individual and pairs have become boring – too many jumps and not enough concentration on artistry, edges and quality of skating.
In my opinion it should all go back to the 6.0 system. The audience understood it better and could participate which in turn brought more people to watch. There are WAY too many rules changes that are nearly impossible to keep up with and not necessary.Being able to take long deep edges and silent skating is just as hard to achieve asd a quad and much nicer to watch!
