Here’s a translation of Young You’s comments about Korean Nationals and being selected for Worlds posted in an interview on mfocus.

Young You placed 7th at the Korean Nationals and has returned to the national team based on the combined scores of the rankings and the national championships.

When asked about her impressions of this competition, Young You replied, “I have participated in the National Championships many times so far, but this competition felt more special, and I feel like I learned a lot from this competition. I will finish it positively because I think I can work harder in the future. I went through a tough mental time last year, and I think it came up a lot during this National Championships. Also, in the short program, I felt the same kind of excitement as when I used to compete in the past, so I was very happy.”

Speking about her last season’s decline in the results, Young You mentioned, “Actually, last year was really tough, and I even thought about retiring. But I made promises with my fans, and they support me and wait for me, so I couldn’t easily retire. So, let’s work hard once more and try to finish it well. That’s why I grabbed my original intention again and went up step by step.”

When a journalist asked if she had expected to participate in the World Championships again, Young You replied, “Not at all. I didn’t expect it at all. After entering the national team at this national championship, I thought I would work even harder and aim for a better preparation for the next season. I think I’m really lucky to be selected for the World Championships unexpectedly, so I want to work even harder to show a better performance at the Worlds from now on.”

Journalist also skaed her about her performance at Worlds two years ago when she finished 5th and whether the previous result motivated her and Young You replied, “Actually, I can say that my passion for figure skating disappeared a bit last year. Since I was selected for the World Championships this time, I made it my goal to work harder again and achieve a clean short and free program.”

As for changing her short program to Otono Porteno by Astor Piazzolla, she explained, “I really liked the short program this time, but Coach Shin Hye-sook said that this National Championships is the most important, and anyway, I need to be selected for the national team, so she suggested changing it to a more impactful program. So, it was changed like that. I will probably go to the World Championships with the same program.” She also brought back her free program to Lord of the Rings OST.
