Here’s a translation of Shoma Uno’s comments about official practice and his goals for Grand Prix Final posted on Nikkansports.
“I’m surprised at how well I’m doing. It wasn’t that good in Japan at all,” said Uno after the official practice in China. “When I asked Stefan (Lambiel, coach), ‘What is it?’ he said, ‘Is it the ice or you yourself?’ he said, ‘Isn’t it both?’ But there’s no point in thinking deeply about things you don’t know. I’ll just see what happens tomorrow.”
When asked if there were any changes made after getting a q on the jumps and receiving those scores at the NHK Trophy, he replied, “I didn’t make any specific changes in practice. I think my performance at the NHK Trophy was good. Perhaps because I was penalized for under-rotation, but I want people to see my NHK Trophy performance as something good and I want to continue delevering good performance.”
“I’m not really as concerned as everyone seems to think,” he added. “This is a sport that exists because we, the athletes, perform and are judged. I’ve thought about why it happens, what the reasons are, and what kind of jumps are okay. Even if I find out, I probably won’t be able to fix it. If I lost my motivation due to under-rotation or something like that, I’d gracefully retire. For now, I hope to show what I’ve practiced for this Final,” Uno explained.

I have always liked Shoma and he is a wonderful skater. However, I believe it is time to move on to someone else with a new/different style. It is simply tiring and boring to see the same movement and performance over and over again.
