According to the Ouest France, “Brian Joubert, the former figure skater and 2007 world champion, has appealed the court’s decision to impose a one-year ice ban with a two-year suspended sentence. He was charged with incidents involving public intoxication, inappropriate behavior, offensive remarks, and suspicions of engaging in sexual relations with a minor.
Joubert, summoned at the request of the President of the French Federation of Ice Sports, Gwenaelle Noury, after several reports, was sentenced on Friday, November 24, to a one-year ice ban with a two-year suspended sentence. Currently serving as a coach in his hometown of Poitiers, Joubert has decided to appeal this sanction. The federation is also expected to appeal.
Brian Joubert faced allegations, including incidents of public intoxication during a gala, verbal and physical violence towards young athletes, and suspicions of engaging in sexual relations with a minor over 15 years old, as reported by L’Équipe. According to the defense, the former star of French figure skating is paying the price for his close association with the former president of the federation, Didier Gailhaguet, who was forced to resign in February 2020 amid numerous cases of sexual violence shaking the institution.”
