It was reported that the skater was considering joining the Czech national team.

“Cirisano did not receive approval for a change of sporting citizenship, like some other athletes. Some athletes were granted approval, but Cirisano did not receive it in accordance with the rules of our federation and quarantine,” said Alexander Kogan, the general director of FFKR.

Cirisano, 21 years old, competes in ice dance. In January, his partnership with Irina Khavronina ended, and he started training with Czech skater Denisa Cimlova in Montreal.

Khavronina and Cirisano were winners of the 2020 Youth Olympic Games, Junior Grand Prix events, and the Junior Russian Nationals.

Elena Tchaikovskaya has revealed why Dario Cirisano wasn’t allowed to join the Czech national team.

Elena Tchaikovskaya: The situation is straightforward. He is a member of the national team, competed throughout the season, and we are not letting him go. We have invested a huge amount of money in him.

But he wants to leave…

Elena Tchaikovskaya: Wanting is one thing, but there are rules. ISU has quarantine regulations that need to be followed, and many have adhered to the quarantine and then left.

There are ISU rules in place, it’s not made up. In the future, he can apply, but currently, the matter is resolved this way.

Sports journalist Elena Vaitsekhovskaya believes it is logical that Dario Cirisano was prohibited from competing for the Czech Republic.

Elena Vaitsekhovskaya: Yesterday’s news that Russian dancer Dario Cirisano did not receive permission from the Figure Skating Federation of Russia (FFKR) to represent another country should, in my opinion, be formulated differently.

The FFKR denied the Czech Republic the opportunity to have a Russian figure skater compete for their country. Given the current political situation and taking into account all the “sanction-related” aspects, it is a completely logical and predictable decision.

What remains unclear is this: sports is not human trafficking, and without the federation’s consent, the skater simply falls under a two-year quarantine period, which effectively ends at the end of this year (Dario last competed internationally in the Junior Grand Prix events in the autumn of 2021). So why make a fuss about the denied permission?

No problem. 6-7 months to go? Just the right time to get used to the partner he chose, so we can see something.. I’m Czech, with huge respect for the Russian figure skating scene, so welcome, Dario. I’ve never seen anyone greater in ice-dancing than Marina Anissina & Gwendal Peizerat, and that was over 20 years ago. It’s not all about which country the pair represents.

Can’t really blame them, seeing as how so many Russians move to the Georgian & Czech feds so they can get in international comps and now, trying to get around the bans.
