Have you watched the World Championships?

Ilia Averbukh: I deliberately didn’t watched. Boycotted. I understand that they don’t care about me, but I don’t care what they do there. The World Championships should be held among the strongest. And Russian figure skating is one of the strongest on the planet. Until there is a competition of the best of the best, I will not watch the World Championships. The guys who won gold there are not to blame for anything, but the absence of Russians devalues their medals. Even though there are 8 quads, even 10, I won’t watch and comment on the World Championships without our skaters.

Rookie mistake. You always keep an eye on the competition. While the Russian girls have ultra-C elements that, if executed well, make them almost impossible to beat, there’s no such advantage for the men, pairs and dancers. They’re all good, mind you, but not unbeatable.
