The member of the Georgian national team, skater Anastasiia Gubanova, who brought Georgia a historic gold medal at the European Championship, is expected to participate in the figure skating show scheduled for February 14 in Moscow, which is organized by CSKA [Central Sports Club of the Russian Army, an institution of the Ministry of Defense of Russia].
Russian media wrote about Anastasiaa Gubanova’s participation before the figure skater’s name appeared on the poster of the show. Even on February 7, Gubanova was not among the participants. Her name was added to the poster on the website on February 8. The organizer of the show is the Moscow Sports Department.
Russian-born figure skater Anastasiia Gubanova brought Georgia the gold medal at the European Championships in Finland on January 28. Radio Liberty asked the president of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation, Maka Giorgobiani, whether participation in the Russian government show will prevent Gubanova from competing on behalf of Georgia or whether she may be affected by sanctions that will prohibit her from participating in international competitions. The president of the figure skating federation told us that “she will not comment on the non-existent fact.” According to her, “Anastasiia is a conscious person,” and she is sure that “she will take everything into account.”
Radio Liberty also wrote to Anastasiia Gubanova and asked how did her last name appear on the poster? Is she really going to participate? And if so, what is her motivation? We have not received a response to the letter at the time of publishing the material.
Anastasiia Gubanova has been a member of the Georgian national team since 2021. 20-year-old Anastasiia lives with her family – parents and younger sibling – in St. Petersburg and trains there. Her main coach is Evgeni Rukavitsin.
Update: After the publication of the material, the Figure Skating Federation of Georgia issued a statement stating that Anastasiia Gubanova will not participate in the show planned in Moscow, and the media is trying to create doubt and discontent in the public by spreading information on this topic.
“Anastasiia Gubanova, like other members of the national figure skating team of Georgia, participates in any event only in agreement with the management of the federation. The Georgian Figure Skating Federation has not made a decision on the participation of Anastasiia Gubanova in the mentioned event,” the statement of the Figure Skating Federation of Georgia states.
On the website of the show, Anastasiia Gubanova is still listed among the participants.

It’s not that they denied the rumors but that they prohibited her to participate (and to earn some deserved income).
Might be hard for Anastasia trying to sit on both chairs;)
Change the title, please. First of all, the ice show in Moscow is not organized by Central Sports Club of the Russian Army. It is organized – as you have mentioned in the text – by Moscow Sports Department. “CSKA Arena” is only the name of the stadium, and it means that this stadium is usually used by the hockey (not figure skating) club CSKA for its games.
However, the only fact is that the athlete will not participate in this event, so the correct title should be about “Georgian FS federation denied the ruhnors that Gubanova would participate in the show in Moscow”.
