On October 22, the largest competitions for Russian figure skaters during the times of sanctions, the Grand Prix, starts. Its first stage will take place in Moscow, and Kamila Valieva is among the participants.
But there is one “but”. The verdict on her doping case will be announced by the disciplinary anti-doping committee on Saturday (October 22). On the same day, at 15:00, the start of the short program among women is scheduled. And it depends on the verdict whether we will see Valieva at the competitions in the near future.
The Russian Figure Skating Federation will receive the verdict in advance based on the results of the investigation. Therefore, Valieva can withdraw from the first stage of the Grand Prix even before it starts. In this case, conclusions can be drawn in advance. Although the option of the withdrawal due to injury is not ruled out also.
But if Valieva competes at this event, this will mean that RUSADA allowed the figure skater to continue performing. However, the possibility is not ruled out that in Russia they will ignore all sorts of verdicts and will allow her to compete as an exception.
In general, the very fact that Kamila is listed for the first stage of the Grand Prix is surprising. The approximate timing of the “sentence” was known in advance. And the coaching staff of Valieva, headed by Eteri Tutberidze, could reserve for her, for example, the third and fifth stages. But everything turned the other way. Now the skater will again have to prepare for the competitions against the backdrop of stress, with a possibility to be completely deprived of the chance to go on the ice if the outcome of the investigation is bad.
