Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: “Triple axel is coming back slowly. But it’s harder than I expected”
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva about her performance at the Russian Cup, new programs, triple axel and quad.
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: I’m glad that in both programs I was able to do the triple axel clean – I had this goal. I was very focused on the (combination) lutz – toe loop and axel, even if it is not as good as I would like, but I was very set up for doing these two elements. Apparently, after them I lost concentration a little. As for the adding another triple axel to the program, well, let’s see how the training process will develop further. But first I need to prepare this option. I also train a quadruple – rotate it, but so far without good landings.
Now I am working to make my new (free) program not only interesting, but also with good and high-quality elements. It has not yet been skated enough, because I am just starting to get into good shape. But we still have to work very, very hard. But actually, everything is not so bad now.
About work on the free program
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: It was a new experience. I think not only for me. I really like the program itself. It seems to me that in this new program I’m also new. We worked hard on the choreography. Perhaps that is why the program is not so well prepared yet, because we spend a lot of time changing hands, making clearer movements. It is not so easy to put some absolutely non-standard things for a person who has been skating for almost 20 years. We focused on changing the artistic image. And now we need to work, because today’s performance is no good. I’ll be in better shape by the next stage.
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: We worked so hard to show all the deep meaning of this program, to show all the movements and feelings. For the first time this season, I got pleasure, so I even stumbled a little on the step sequence. I thought: OMG, I’m an experienced athlete, I don’t do that. Turns out I do.
I was eager for the sea, Sochi, and for the ice too. It was difficult for me psychologically, that there was no sun for a long time, the weather turned bad. I will be frank: I really wanted to be in Sochi, warmly, to the sea, then to training – this gave an emotional boost.
We have done a lot of work on the axel – it is coming back slowly. But it’s harder than I expected. I thought that many years of performance would help, but the feeling of rotation is quickly forgotten. I did it, even such one is a good result for me.

With that particular jump.
I watched the performances from Stage 3 of the Russia Cup and I thought Liza’s triple axel was great. It was solid and she looked comfortable.
Good luck to her.
