Stolbova and Klimov end of partnership
So now it official, Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov split up. Like we haven’t known for months)
Some comments from Fedor Klimov, Nina Mozer, Tatiana Tarasova and the Federation of figure skating who as usually plays Jon Snow and knows nothing.
Fedor Klimov: The pair Stolbova / Klimov doesn’t exist any longer, it was our mutual decision. I’m grateful to Ksenia for the joint sports career, for the years that we spent together on the ice. I think that we have achieved a lot. But we decided to stop preparation, and this decision is final.
Last time I spoke with Ksenia in the spring, we thought to finish our career last season, but the season turned out to be incomplete. There was a feeling of understatement, so there were doubts about the career.
Nina Mozer: I had a great time working with this couple. As a coach I was very pleased, we had enough medals, victories over ourselves, over circumstances. For me this period didn’t end today. But the athletes themselves had to make a decision for themselves. I haven’t seen Stolbova since February, Fedia I see regularly.
Tatiana Tarasova: We can’t lose such an outstanding sportswoman and great pair skater who can surpass everyone at the next Olympics. I think that if the federation can’t influence Klimov’s decision, it should take care of its honored masters of sports, champions and silver medalists of the Olympic Games, who have achieved an outstanding result and have glorified our homeland more than once, and to offer Ksenia a new way, to take care and find or help her to find a partner.
If you forget, neglect and don’t pay attention to it – it looks catastrophic. So, we can “lure” people, and then throw them to the sidelines, simply not caring about the country or the results. I think that our federation, our Ministry of Sport, and I appeal to them, shouldn’t leave this outstanding athlete without attention. There are few such athletes as Stolbova in the world. And it’s a great happiness that we have such an athlete in our country. If we don’t help her, then of course she will go to another country.
I know for sure that that Ksenia didn’t make any decisions, that she healed her leg and she is in great shape. In Germany there is such Aliona Savchenko. Here we have Ksenia as an outstanding sportswoman! The same fanatical and the same talented! If someone doesn’t understand this or pretends that he does not understand, I feel very sorry for them.
Alexander Gorshkov (the president of Russian Figure skating federation): Neither Klimov nor Stolbva came to the Federation with such official statements. Until I hear this from them I can not comment on anything.

I’m sad that they split up, but if they felt it was necessary I wish Ksenia had paired up with Andrei Rogonov. She is a femme fatale and he has great acting skills. They would be fabulous on ice together.
I’ve heard they had a try-out, but things didn’t work out.
Really? What a shame, that would have been epic! Maybe he was a little too short?
I don’t think so. The girl he’s skating with now is quite tall for pairs. So I don’t think it was about the height. Probably just completely different techniques or something else.
Ah, I see. It’s sad but what was I expecting, a fairytale?
Well…it breaks my heart, but I guess all good things must come to an end. I wish them both luck. Excuse me while I go cry a little…
Well, I thought they may finish their career after this season, but they could have at least do shows together….
To be honest, I thought they were going to retire last season too and maybe do shows. But I guess this is better – I can see them skate for a few more years, just not together.
Love TAT’s support of Stolbova. Sorry to lose them as a pair -they were unique and fabulous when healthy/at their best -but I will hope for the best for both of them.
TAT is passionate for talents and Ksenia is definitely super talented skater. As far as I understand Fedor decided to switch to coaching.
Actually, I believe Fedor was skating with Elena Pavlova, a 17-year-old girl from Mozer’s group, at training camp in Italy. Perhaps he will skate with her for a few years, then start coaching.
Honestly, I don’t believe either Ksenia or Fedor will be successful in some new pairs. To me skating with Elena PAvlova looks more like coaching her.
I want to believe so much that they can switch partners and be successful like Aliona was, but I also think of Ilinykh/Katsalapov and how splitting was the biggest mistake of their career. And I agree, Elena Pavlova is so young and inexperienced, I don’t know if she will be able to keep up with him. I wish they could eventually get back together like Grishuk and Platov, but that won’t happen. They had something magical together and now they are letting it go.
I think that Volosozhar/Trankov’s and Savchenko/Massot’s examples are exceptional. Such doesn’t happen often. It’s like winning a lottery. Maybe skaters and their fans think they could follow these examples, but that’s not how it works(
Unfortunately I agree. There can only be so many miracles…I wish I could believe there will be a great comeback, but I’m afraid this is the end. Fedor himself once said that together they had something, but apart, there was only a big question about whether they would do well. Aliona, come back and take Fedor to the Olympics, he deserves to go back at least once!
