Some duos from Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon  group show their  short dances. I my preview for the Quebec Summer Championships I’ve told about my doubts whether Dubreuil and Lauzon will be capable to create so many different and interesting dances. So, let’s discuss the results.

3. Elisabeth Paradis and Francois-Xavier Ouellette (CAN) 58.50

It was nice and heartfelt dance. They look good in such light and romantic dances. Last year Paradis and Ouellette were close to the National team, so I don’t like that from the first competition the judges started to put a big gap between them and Paul Islam. Maybe the free dance will make some changes, like it was last year?

2. Madison Hubbel and Zachary Donohue  (USA) 64.64

I like this dance. They chose Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen but in a blues cover. Amazing combination with their powerful but soft skating. I’m sure that this dance can call a goosebumps when it’ll be completely ready. I also like simple costumes but I hope thay will change the color of Madisson’s dress to something light. The thing I worry about is a music rhythm. There is no change of music rhythm to march, foxtrot or polka. I have a bad feelings that the US Federation will tell them to make some changes in music cut. That will be pity, because the dance could lose it’s unity. And in my opinion they should have won the short dance.

1. Alexandra Paul and  Mitchell Islam  (CAN) 64.68

It’s a nice dance from Alexandra and Mitchell but I can’t say that is something new for them. For Alexandra with her balletic lines to choose the image of ballerina is obvious and predictable. And I think if they wanted to make her a ballerina they should have chosen something more famous and powerful. This is nice dance but they won’t get a breakthrough with it.

So, we still haven’t seen the dances from the leaders of Dubreuil and Lauzon’s group but on this stage I can’t say they produced something unique and interesting for theirs other duos. Maybe the free dances will change my mind.

Pairs competition was interesting too. See my review of pairs short program.
