French choreographer Benoit Richaud spoke to Sports correspondent Maya Bagryantseva about working with 2022 Olympic silver medalist Alexandra Trusova. Here’s a translation.

“We had five full days on the ice to work with Sasha. The music for the program was already chosen – I suggested it, but I’ll let Sasha reveal it herself. I can only say that it’s a more mature and sophisticated piece, with musical development, but its foundation leans more toward the classical. Our work turned out to be very interesting.

I was very pleased with the result, and I hope people will see that she can do more than just jump. Interestingly, even in less than a week, you could see her open up in a new way. Some things were unfamiliar to her at first – she even said, ‘No, no, this really isn’t my thing, I can’t do it.’ But you should have seen the final result! Her skating, the way she hears the music, her attention to edges and glide – I think she started to believe in herself more. I even saw it in her mother’s eyes – she was present at our practices.

And Sasha has an incredibly sweet son. Misha is a very beautiful child – have you seen him? I told Sasha he was made for movies or modeling. He has such an angelic personality, always smiling and not afraid of anyone.

With every athlete I work with, I discover something new, and that makes me stronger and better. Sasha is a super professional; she knows exactly what works on the ice, but I think she also discovered something new during these days. This was our first time working together – we hadn’t met before. At first, she was a bit reserved and cautious, often saying she didn’t quite understand what I wanted. But by the end, she blossomed and opened up. We were on the same wavelength and could already understand each other without words,” Richaud said.
