Tatiana Tarasova commented on American Ilia Malinin’s performance at the World Championships. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Malinin landed five quadruple jumps in his free skate, winning gold and finishing nearly 23 points ahead of silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama.

This is the third World Championship gold in the American skater’s career. At the 2026 Olympics, Malinin missed his free skate and finished eighth in the individual event.

“A person who, just a few weeks ago, didn’t skate well at the Olympics – look at how he overcame himself now, even though it wasn’t easy for him. It was so hard for him to do all this, but he did it.

And that Japanese skater [Kagiyama] performed fantastically, because everything started with Ilia. He’s a genius who began doing things no one else has done, and won’t do for a long time. Everyone looked at Ilia and realized it’s possible. And look at how the Japanese skated – absolutely amazing,” Tarasova said.
