Georgian pair skater Anastasiia Metelkina, who won silver medal at the 2026 Olympics alongside her partner Luka Berulava, reflected on the challenges, growth, and triumphs of their journey to the Olympic podium.
“Our journey to the Olympics is complete.
There are no easy roads in sports, and ours was no exception. These past years were full of everything: doubts and wins, inner battles and joy, moments of weakness and moments of strength. But the most valuable thing? Experience. Huge priceless experience that shapes you as an athlete and as a person.
My first season with Luka was really strong. We won all the junior competitions and came closer than ever to European gold. Back then with all the expectations and pressure, emotions often took over. Every competition was tough and sometimes I felt like I wasn’t enough.
Looking back now I’m so grateful. Those emotions and that pressure taught me to understand myself better and keep moving forward no matter what.
Before this season I felt truly aware. Every competition before the Olympics was a test of how I felt, my mindset, and my decisions. Every time I stepped on the ice I reminded myself: “This isn’t the Olympics yet,” knowing that the real nerves would come there.
And then… the Olympics.
And you know what?
I was calm, focused, mentally ready, and felt this inner steadiness. I could actually enjoy every single performance. I think that’s one of the reasons we got such a great result.
I’m incredibly proud of our Olympic silver but this isn’t the finish line. We’re just getting started. We’ll keep working, and I believe in us.
Thank you to everyone who’s been by our side: huge thanks to our coaches Pavel Sliusarenko, Egpr Zakroev, Benoit Richaud, Siarhei Plishkin for going through this journey with us, sharing their experience and support.
Endless thanks to our Federation President Maka-Mariam Giorgobiani she’s amazing at what she does, and we appreciate her more than words.
Big shoutout to the Ministry of Sport and the Georgian Olympic Committee for believing in us and supporting us endlessly.
Thank you to our parents for giving us life and the chance to do what we love.
And of course, thank you to everyone watching and cheering for us. In the end we skate for you.
This is just the beginning. See you at the World Championships!”
