Tatiana Tarasova praised the talent of French ice dancers Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron after their Olympic victory, and commented on the performances and progress of other teams. Here’s a translation of her comments.
The victory went to the French pair, Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron. Second place was taken by Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates, and third by Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier.
“Tatiana Tarasova: I agree with the results; they are correct. At last, the Canadian pair, who for many years deserved to be first, second, or third, won the bronze. Previously, they were left with nothing. The top two pairs were sorted out correctly, in my opinion. Guillaume won – he is more progressive, although the Americans skated beautifully.
Q: Are you surprised that the French managed to skate together for just one season and immediately win the Olympics?
Tatiana Tarasova: No, I’m not surprised, because they are talented people. And talented people can work wonders.
Q: What did you think of the performances by Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin? Can their progress over two seasons in Montreal already be noted?
Tatiana Tarasova: They skated well. But we must not forget that three Russian pairs did not participate. Unfortunately, their placements are what they are. In that, there is no progress. But there is progress in their skating and in their understanding of ice dance.”
