Belgian figure skater Loena Hendrickx will change the music for her short program ahead of the 2026 Olympics because of copyright issues.
Hendrickx had been skating to Celine Dion’s “Ashes,” but will now perform to “I Surrender” by the same artist.
According to her coach and brother, Jorik Hendrickx, obtaining the rights to use music during the Games turned out to be a lengthy process.
“There are more commercial interests involved at the Winter Games than at other competitions.
The [platform] ClicknClear offers a catalog of songs with ready-made licenses that are easy to purchase. For the song ‘I Surrender,’ the license is available at a limited price – 50 euros for non-commercial use, such as at sporting events. It’s an older hit, so it’s more accessible,” Jorik explained.
