Olympic ice dance champion Gabriella Papadakis will release her memoir, titled To Not Disappear, in January 2026, exploring her journey, challenges, and groundbreaking return to figure skating.

“In 2022, Papadakis became an Olympic champion and a world champion in figure skating. At the time, it seemed certain she would compete at the 2026 Olympics, but Gabriella made the unexpected decision to retire from the sport and announced the end of her competitive career.

This book delves deeply into the personal and behind-the-scenes reasons for such an unexpected choice: why she decided to leave the ice when another Olympic gold medal seemed within reach, and why, after only a few months, she returned to the ice – this time paired with a woman, breaking long-standing traditions in figure skating.

Born from profound self-reflection, this memoir outlines her life’s path – a journey meticulously crafted to shine, no matter the cost.

Balancing between triumphant victories and unseen injuries, an intrinsic need to dance and the harsh realities of her environment, global acclaim and an internal conviction to step away, Gabriella offers an honest, emotional account of the realities of elite sports.”

According to the description on Fnac.com, Papadakis writes “to not disappear into the silence imposed on women and to reclaim ownership of her story and her art.”
