Junior World Figure Skating Champions Mao Shimada outlined their ambitious goals for the new season. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Tokyo Sports.
Junior World Champion Mao Shimada declared her ambitious goals for the upcoming figure skating season, centering on the theme of “miracles.” For her free skate program this season, the young skater chose “Miracle” by Yoshiki, composed for the famous Japanese rock band X JAPAN. At the season kickoff press conference held in Tokyo on October 1, Shimada shared her bold aim: “I want to create miracles.”
Explaining her choice of music and goal, she said, “I hope to deliver a performance that creates miracles in harmony with the music. Of course, success in terms of results is important, but being able to approach each competition in peak condition is also a kind of miracle. I want to achieve miracles in many ways.” She added firmly, “Through hard work, I want to develop the ability to deliver excellent performances under any circumstances.”
Although the age restriction prevents her from competing at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, Shimada remains focused on her immediate goals particularly the Junior Grand Prix Final, set to take place in Nagoya, Aichi, this December. Reflecting on her path forward, she said, “First, I need to properly heal my injury, train as I want to, compete, and deliver strong performances.”
