Russian figure skater Adeliia Petrosian shared her emotions after winning the Olympic qualification tournament in Beijing, discussing the challenges she faced and the support she felt from her coach, even at a distance. Here’s a translation of her comments.
On September 20, Adeliia Petrosyan claimed victory at the Olympic qualification tournament in Beijing. Following her victory, she opened up about her feelings during the competition and the guidance of her coach, Eteri Tutberidze, who was present in Beijing but not directly accompanying her on the ice.
“On the day of the short program, I was very nervous. I didn’t know what to expect – it felt like there was a lot of uncertainty,” Petrosian shared in an interview with Channel One.
“But on the day of the free skate, it was the opposite – I felt very calm and truly enjoyed performing. The jump content was a bit different from what I’m used to, and we’ll work on that moving forward,” she added.
Tutberidze, who was in Beijing acting as the coach for the Georgian national team, wasn’t with Petrosian during her time on the ice. However, Petrosian still felt supported by her coach.
“I knew when she would leave, so I purposely went down to see her. We chatted briefly, and she hugged and kissed me. She was clearly nervous and emotional, and I could feel her presence with me the whole time. Because of that, everything went smoothly,” Petrosian explained.
