In a conversation with Sports correspondent Maya Bagriantseva, Kazakh figure skater Mikhail Shaidorov shared his emotions after winning silver medal at the 2025 World Championships in Boston. Here’s a translation.

“If someone had told me at the beginning of the season that I would stand on the podium at the World Championships, I would’ve never believed it.

The season was incredibly challenging for me, but it turned out to be a true breakthrough. I’m beyond happy to share the podium with such incredible skaters as Yuma [Kagiyama] and Ilia [Malinin].

As a skater, I’ve been greatly influenced by Shoma Uno and Yuzuru Hanyu — I’ve followed them closely and tried to reach the same heights they achieved. I feel like I’ve made a good start. In the future, I want to surprise people even more with something new. For example, I want to try a quad lutz–euler–quad salchow combination.

I’m also very motivated by Ilia Malinin. I want to stand out in some way and be able to compete with him.

I always remember Denis Ten with very warm feelings — it’s devastating that he’s no longer with us. I wish I could’ve talked to him and shared the accomplishments I’ve been able to achieve,” Shaidorov said.
