Kaori Sakamoto (24) scored 71.03 points in the short program and currently taking fifth place. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.
“I’m frustrated,” she said, biting her lip. “I was extremely nervous today and couldn’t perform as I had hoped. A wave of uncertainty passed over me.” After finishing her performance, she put her hands over her face in disappointment.
“I’ll only allow myself to focus on the point gap today. The day after tomorrow, I will genuinely focus on performing my program all the way through and believe that the results will follow. I want to make sure I do it right no matter what.”
