Alexandra Trusova, in Maxim Trankov’s podcast “Free Program” on Channel One admitted that she had “star fever.” Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Q: Do you feel flattered that your surname is mentioned more often than your competitors?
Alexandra Trusova: Sometimes it’s funny, honestly, when some articles come out. My favorite one was that Trusova kissed Ignatov on the air of Channel One. It happened during the test skates. Just one article like that. I already think: well, maybe I shouldn’t kiss my husband.
Q: It seems to me the key word here is “on the air of Channel One.”
Alexandra Trusova: Well, apparently, yes. You just don’t like the surname Trusova. As soon as I changed my surname, everything smoothed out.
Q: With the fame that fell upon you, did you ever have star fever?
Alexandra Trusova: I think that no one, when they have star fever, would ever say, “yes, that’s true.” I’m certain of this, that a person will not admit it themselves. But now I think I don’t have it.
But did I have it? I think yes, but I hope it wasn’t very pronounced. But it was there, and I think it was when I was 16, when I moved from Eteri to Evgeni Viktorovich, and at that time I skated with children. He just didn’t have senior athletes my age, and there were children who trained with him. They were at most 11 years old at the time.
Q: And Alena Kostornaia.
Alexandra Trusova: Well, we didn’t skate in the same group. Alena, first of all, came later, and secondly, she skated in a different group.
We all skated of the same age, more or less. And then you come in, there are kids who don’t understand where you are going, don’t understand that you are jumping a quad. They don’t understand how difficult it is and what should be done at that moment. Of course, I started getting very angry.
And many told, and still sometimes tell in interviews even now, that when I was passing with the quad, they would jump out of the rink. This was really so because they interfered so much that I couldn’t jump quads.
And at some point, I really said that if I am going, you need to either squeeze in or go somewhere because I can’t jump. And they literally jumped out of the rink. I think this was probably a case of star fever, maybe I could have explained it more calmly, but I was quite assertive when I said it.”
