In the interview posted on Eurosport France, Adam Siao Him Fa talks about that has delayed his season start, new programs and goals for the season. Here’s a translation.

Q: Adam, did this ankle injury worry you?

Adam Siao Him Fa: It was quite stressful at the beginning. I thought it would set me back, but actually, I hadn’t lost my feel on the ice. When I resumed skating, it came back very, very quickly. The body has a good muscle memory. It’s much better now, I’m at about 80% of my form.

Q: So, can you tell us a bit more about your programs?

Adam Siao Him Fa: For the short program, I’m skating to ‘SOS d’un terrien en détresse.’ A long time ago, almost five years ago, I think, Benoit had suggested skating to this music. At that time, I didn’t feel ready. And now, as we started planning the programs and looking for music, he revisited the idea, and for this year, I thought it could be good. It’s a good theme, music that I really like. And it also allowed me to change styles.

We wanted to offer something new, in terms of music and the style of the program. We wanted to experiment. When there is a theme, it’s easier to identify with it and also to convey it to the audience.

Q: And for the free program?

Adam Siao Him Fa: I will skate to the movie Dune. In January, Benoit told me, “okay, I went to see Dune II, you have to see it, you should skate to it next year.” So, I went, and I loved it. I had already seen the first one, and when I saw the second, it was clear! I play the role of Paul Atreides, the main character of the movie. And throughout the program, we go through many different emotions. It took some time to choose the right music, we didn’t know where to start, which part to use depending on the moment of the program, to make it meaningful. Once the music was ready, it went very quickly, we put together the program in two days! And with Benoit, it matched super quickly. He already had ideas in his head, and I felt at ease right away. Now we are fine-tuning before the first competitions.

Q: Are you going to make any technical changes this season?

Adam Siao Him Fa: Right now, I’m doing all the quadruple jumps, so physically I’m fine. But we decided with my team that it was better to proceed gradually. So, I won’t necessarily have the same technical content at the beginning and end of the season. We will build up step by step.

Q: What are your goals for this season?

Adam Siao Him Fa: Obviously, I aim for better, because from one season to another, I want to improve. So, in the short term, the goal is to requalify for the Grand Prix Final (last year he finished 4th). In terms of performance, as I’m in the recovery phase, the aim is to perform clean programs. And to show my progress at both artistic and technical levels. I’m aiming for a third European champion title, and a podium at the World championships, but that’s a bit farther away. I’m not thinking too much about it. For now, the goal is to get back into shape. I know what I’m capable of, I also see what other competitors are doing. So, I want to show what I can do.

Q: Last year, you promised us some surprises for the new season. Where are you with that?

Adam Siao Him Fa: They are ready! (He smiles). But I won’t tell you what! When it happens, everyone will understand. But I’m not saying at what point in the season it will happen…

Q: And you’ve inspired others with your back flip, many skaters are trying it!

Adam Siao Him Fa: That was the goal, so it worked. I’m really glad it’s allowed now, and that other athletes are getting into it and working on it. It means a lot to me.”
