Choreographer of Eteri Tutberize’s group Daniil Gleikhengauz told that he hopes to see Alena Kostornaia and Georgi Kunitsa compete in the current season. He also shared how he motivates athletes in the absence of international competitions. Here’s a translation of his comment.
Previously, Kostornaia told that she had contracted pneumonia, which would cause them to miss several competitions.
“I saw them with Gosha during test skates; they seemed to have good programs and decent skating,” said Gleikhengauz. “So I can only wish them luck. I know there are some issues, but I hope to see them in competitions this season.”
“We try to convey to the athletes that even though there isn’t a chance to win the Olympics at this time, this is a great opportunity to learn new elements, not just jumps – new spins, develop artistically, and improve their skating.
There is time to master all aspects of figure skating, and by the time we are allowed back, to re-enter in a way that leaves no opportunity for competition, to be head and shoulders above once again,” said the choreographer and coach of the Eteri Tutberidze group answering the question of how to motivate athletes in the absence of international competitions.
