Having won the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Korea in January, Mao Shimada (15) attended the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s award ceremony on October 8th. Here’s a translation of her comments.

“Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by the Olympics. Even though it was the Youth Olympics, I was thrilled to participate and winning the gold medal there is truly a memory I will cherish for the rest of my skating life,” she said with a smile.

She also expressed her aspirations for the Junior Grand Prix Final in France this December, where she will aim for her third consecutive title. “There are many wonderful skaters, and being one of the six, I think I will be nervous, but I want to perform my best,” she said.
