Kaori Sakamoto returned to Japan on after finishing third at her first competition of the season, Lombardia Trophy in Italy, with a total score pf 199,94 points. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.

“It was a typical result for the first competition of the season, and it was good because I learned what I wanted to find out,” she said.

Her new free skate program “Chicago,” which was completed about a month ago. Although the preparation period was short, she decided to put two lutzes this season. There was a mistake in a solo triple lutz, but, “There were many mistakes because the pacing of the program and the new combinations are still unfamiliar, but I will continue to tackle them throughout the season.”

The goal for this pre-Olympic season leading up to the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics is to “focus on the content.” “It was good that all spins from the first competition were level 4. Also, there are still aspects that are not yet fully mastered, and I felt that stamina was lacking in the free skate, so I hope to work more on these.”

The world champion, who found “many challenges” at her first competition, said, “Next, I want to be able to compete better” and is looking forward to the next Grand Prix (GP) Series, Skate Canada (October 25-27, Halifax).
