Yohina Yoshida (19), last season’s Grand Prix (GP) Final bronze medalist, participated in a regular competition between universities. Here’s a translation of her comments.
This competitions were her first start as a university student, Yoshida remarked, “I’ve become a university student, so I wanted to have fun competing with my teammates. I was really looking forward to this. I skated trying to show everyone something cool, with everyone’s support. I think I was able to enjoy skating,” she said with a smile.
As her performance, she mentioned, “I regret the mistake on the jump, but it was good that I managed to brush up on the choreography of my short program, paid attention to every movement, and concentrated on my steps and spins.”
Regarding the GP series that starts in October, Yoshida, who previously finished third, is aiming for the top again and is focusing her efforts accordingly. “I want to deliver solid results there, so I will cherish each day leading up to it. There are competitions in September as well, and I want to fight with full strength in each match to be in perfect shape by October.”
“It was tough balancing classes and training, as I had to chase after assignments on busy days, but I managed it well. I want to continue balancing both well even after the summer vacation ends,” she said, expressing satisfaction with her life as a university student skater.
She also expressed her determination to make the new year a better one. “Last year, I achieved more than I had expected. This season, while maintaining my challenger spirit, I want to produce consistent results in every competition and aim higher. It’s my second year as a senior, and I’d like to show a maturity like that of the older skaters.”
