Nina Pinzarrone takes 11th place after the short program.
Nina Pinzarrone had her fair share of troubles in the lead-up to the World Championships. She fell down the stairs at home a few days before departing, resulting in some tailbone pain. And in Canada, she continuously suffered from nosebleeds, which hindered her training. Her first combination jump didn’t go well, although she didn’t let it shake her and completed the rest of her routine well.
“It wasn’t so good,” she honestly told our Sporza correspondent. “The preparation wasn’t smooth. Perhaps I doubted myself a bit too much beforehand. But the day after tomorrow, I’ll show that I can do it and that this mistake was just a mishap.”
“I did think a bit about a possible nosebleed beforehand, but I knew that if it happened, I’d just have to keep going,” said Nina. “I think I should have more self-confidence. On Friday (in the free program), I want to do my best and hope to skate a personal best. I think it was just the moment itself. That I need to have more self-confidence.”
The rest of the routine did go well. “I’m happy about that. But I don’t want to make that mistake at the beginning ever again. That impacts the rest of the routine, it’s somewhere in the back of your mind. You mainly know that you made a mistake and that you can’t make any more mistakes.”
Pinzarrone also admitted that mistakes don’t haunt her, “That mistake (in the short program) didn’t haunt me,” she told Sporza. “I try to forget it as much as possible. Actually, I always sleep quite well. I also got to sleep in. I have slept well and sufficiently.”
Answering the question about her goals for the free program, Nina said “The points are very close. I’ll do my best and think that I can move up a few places. And if that’s with a lot of points, then there might also be a personal best in the total,” she joked in the end. “I don’t want to make too many statements about placement, but I will do my best to make it into the top 8. If I am satisfied with my performance, it’s good.”
