Translation of the Dmitri Aiev comments about his performance in she short program at the Spartakiad and some struggles with motivation he faces in the absence of international competitions.

“I don’t have any special impressions, it was a gray skate. The glass didn’t fill up. Somewhere between warm-up and the performance, I spilled out of this glass all the necessary things that would have helped me to perform better. I’m only satisfied with the program in the sense that it was quite easy, despite the mistakes, I tried to deliver an overall skating that should be there.

We have the same participants from competitions to competitions. Everything is good, but only the name of the competitions changes. It really motivated me when I was competing with Javier (Fernandez) in the European years… Here, all competitions are the same for me. They are well organized, I don’t argue, but I’m so used to the guys that when you go out, you think… I don’t want to offend the guys, but I don’t feel the drive, you know.

This season is fluctuating in terms of mood: sometimes I’m enthusiastic, sometimes I don’t want to do anything at all. Often lately, I’ve been enthusiastic, I had four weeks of serious work before the event, and I prepared myself well for the competition, very well. If we look at the previous competitions during the season, then in terms of physical preparation, everything was better here. But I always had a fear for this condition, because here you have to show those developments. Probably, it’s a little pressuring for me.

Also, maybe it’s not worth paying attention to, but the 6th starting number, which has been haunting me lately, is very frustrating. I wanted to go out on the 3rd or 4th number, the energy would have been completely different. Maybe I didn’t prepare myself correctly in tactical terms. It’s frustrating, of course, when this happens, but apparently, there are consistent athletes, and there are not. I can probably say that I am an not a consistent athlete.

I recently talked to my friend, a former figure skater with quite a few titles, and I realized that the most important comptition in those years was the Russian Nationals. And here, practically every competition is like the Russian Nationals for us. It’s cool, but in these conditions, I don’t feel the rules, many things don’t work for me. But maybe everything will change.

I want to say that the Spartakiad is very well organized. I like that from start to start, a colossal level is maintained, especially in terms of organization. I want to show all this for them, but you see, somehow everything…” – said the European champion.

I think I can understand the context. And I want just add – “ You don’t ask for freedom, you FIGHT for it”. No one will come and give it to you, Russians on a golden plate. Ukrainians are fighting, Polish, Finnish and Baltic people could, so why can’t you?! And my answer is simple and delivered without putting you down, but this is the sad fact – because you are cowards. Still, you can change this. They can arrest thousands of people, but not millions. If you’ll never understand this, you will forever be in prison.
