Estonian ice dance team Solene Mazingue and Marko Jevgeni Gaidajenko took 20th place at the European Championships 2024.

“I am very pleased with the performance. We were nervous before going out on the ice, but otherwise, we really enjoyed it,” commented Gaidajenko

“I am very satisfied. Everything was amazing: the audience, the music, the ice. I was happy to perform,” confirmed Solene Mazingue.

Gaidajenko and Mazingue overcame a very challenging preparation period. In late September of last year, Mazingue fell on her head during training in Montreal. She managed to survive thanks to emergency brain surgery, but it was followed by a period of rehabilitation. She gradually recovered and, within six months, was able to compete again in the World Championships. In May of last year, Mazingue fell again during training but managed to return to skating.

“These incidents have left their mark. There are things we could have done better. Perhaps we would have scored more points at the European Championships if we had skated throughout the season. But I’m not thinking about that now. I am focused on where we are and what we want to achieve,” said Gaidajenko.

“To be honest, I don’t think about it. When I’m on the ice, I just want to skate and give it my all. I am only focused on skating,” shared Mazingue.

Gaidajenko and Mazingue primarily train in Montreal at the internationally renowned ice dance academy: “It has given us a lot. We train with world champions and Olympic champions.”
