Here’s translation of Valieva’s comments made in an interview for Channel One.

Kamila Valieva shared that she still experiences nervousness before competitions.

“Nothing has changed. In reality, it’s food for thought – you need to understand it in your mind; it doesn’t just go away. What was there at 13 is the same as now.

What’s inside you usually shows on the outside, but now I’ve learned more to control what is expressed on my face; what is conveyed in my body. At that moment, I try to calm down, that is, exhale to calm my mind.

But I was like a spasmodic child who was afraid of everything, and unfortunately, I still remain that way. It’s more of a human thing,” noted Valieva.

“Q: Have you ever envisioned yourself in pair skating at any point?

Kamila Valieva: In dances, yes. In pairs, no. I find dancing appealing, so I’m all for it. When the question arose around the age of nine, when things weren’t working out, I would say, “Maybe let’s try dancing since nothing else is working.”

The issue was that I liked figure skating, I liked the skates, but at some point, I didn’t realize – I wasn’t succeeding, and why should I torture myself with single skating,” said Valieva.

“I want to make a disclaimer: if fans knew what we’re thinking during the program, they would be very disappointed. In most cases, the movements are automatic, as they are well-practiced in training, and sometimes we add more emotions.

Dear fans, know that it’s very challenging to enjoy the program while jumping elements are happening. But we try, really,” said Valieva about performing programs.
