The Executive Committee of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia (FFKR) has approved the transfer of Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin to the Georgian national team. This was announced by the head coach of the Russian team, Elena Tchaikovskaya.
“We have not received any requests from Davis and Smolkin regarding the transfer, but on May 22, we received a release from Georgia asking for permission to allow them to transfer. We considered this matter, and on May 25, the Executive Committee Bureau decided to release them.
They have not participated in any competitions for a year and a half after the Olympic Games, no funds have been spent on them. They have not come to Russia, so we have released them,” Tchaikovskaya explained.
Davis and Smolkin compete in ice dance and represented Russia at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, where they finished 14th. After the Olympic Games, the skaters flew to the United States for training and have not returned to Russia since then. In March of last year, they got married in Las Vegas.
